IGNORANCE IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF

 








The modern church is now embracing the idea that one can love God without needing to know Him. Many believers today consider studying who God is as unnecessary, since, according to them, they only want Jesus—not theology.

These people have wrongly applied the verse, “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise” (1 Cor 1:27), to justify being ignorant. They claim that since God Himself chose the unlearned, then why should anyone bother to gain knowledge? And because we already have the “mind of Christ” (1 Cor 2:16), they say there’s no need to pursue wisdom. For them, going deeper into the knowledge of the Bible will only lead to pride, so it is better not to dig any further. They believe that depth is unnecessary since, according to them, it can be replaced by living rightly or simply by loving others.

As a result, Christians today see ignorance of the Word as something to be proud of; the less you know, the more humble you are. Worse, they normalize smart-shaming believers who don’t think like them! Many have chosen emotional experience over the knowledge of God’s truth, producing weak and shallow faith.

It is never okay to be a mindless Christian. Believers who neglect the intellectual side of their faith fail to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus (2 Peter 3:18). How can they love someone they don’t even know? How can they make Him known if, from the very beginning, they don’t know Him at all? Shallowness in His Word is not humility. A Christian who takes pride in ignorance should not be considered humble because that is actually laziness disguised as humility. Laziness hiding under the mask of meekness. Such a thing should never be celebrated, brother!

In Philippians 4:8, Paul instructs us: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” And what could be truer, nobler, purer, lovelier, more admirable, more excellent, and more praiseworthy than the things concerning God?

Going deeper into our knowledge of God is the greatest journey we could ever take in this world. A deeper understanding of God and His Word will always lead to a deeper love for Him. And the more we know Him, the more effectively we can make Him known. Stay Curious.
