THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST: What Did Jesus Actually Accomplish?
1. REDEMPTION FOR SINNERS
Galatians 3:13 – “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree’—”
Ephesians 1:7 – “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,”
Revelation 5:9 – “And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,’”
2. RECONCILIATION TO THE FATHER
Romans 5:10 – “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”
2 Corinthians 5:18–19 – “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”
Ephesians 2:6 – “and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,”
Colossians 1:20 – “and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”
3. SALVATION FROM THE WRATH OF GOD
John 3:36 – “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
Romans 5:9 – “Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.”
1 Thessalonians 1:10 – “and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”
1 Thessalonians 5:9 – “For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
